This workshop in London, Ontario (Canada) began with Dr. Prashant R. Waghmare introducing surface tension and how it can apply to many different areas -- even helping to solve a murder case over 100 years ago. These workshops are held annually and can help to develop knowledge in surface science.

Feb. 12, 2019: iSSELab has recently received a new piece of equipment:  the Photron NOVA S9 High Speed Camera. This new high speed camera comes with a 1-Megapixel CMOS image sensor, capable of recording and capturing at 1024X1024 pixels at 9000 fps. It also has the maximum frame rate of 900,000fps.

The addition of this camera has enhanced the lab's capability of capturing events in the time frame of milliseconds.

Jan. 17, 2017: SEDS-Canada has announced the top four teams who have been selected for the first Canadian Reduced Gravity Experiment Design Challenge. Team iSSELab from the University of Alberta has been selected to be one of them.

 

Team iSSELab intends on studying the effect of reduced gravity on 3D printing materials by observing alterations in the crystallization process in the reduced gravity environment.

Apr. 24, 2019: iSSELab has recently received a new piece of equipment:  the Laurell WS-650Mz-23NPPB Spin Processor. This spin processor is capable of up to 12K rpm - depending on substrate size. The digital process controller allows for various settings to be implemented for each run.

July. 20, 2017: Md Farhad Ismal and Ryan Baily next to the experimental set-up designed and built by iSSELab team for the Canadian Reduced Gravity Experiment Design Challenge at the NRC's Flight Research Lab in Ottawa this week.

 

Recent graduate and Ph.D. student from Mechanical Engineering are in for a unique summer vacation this year – a nausea inducing one!  are in Ottawa in preparation for next week when they will travel aboard the National Research Council of Canada’s Falcon 20 aircraft as it performs 12 parabolic maneuvers in order to simulate the microgravity conditions. By all accounts, the trip can make you feel pretty bad.

Nov. 9, 2016: iSSELab has received unique equipment, High Pressure / High Temperature Drop Shape Analyzer (750 bar and 200C) capable measuring IFT/SFT and CA at those conditions.

In addition, iSSELab gets unique High Pressure/High Temperature Oscillating Drop Method (ODM) system, which allows to study interfacial rheology at elevated conditions.
